Poetic License Minigrants are now CLOSED
Thank you to everyone who applied.
We will be announcing minigrant recipients on 9/21!
Want to support the Talk About Our Shit 2020 project? You can donate to our PayPal and all funds will go to our participating artists and project printing costs.

We are excited to announce that we have secured enough funding to support a first round of four writers to contribute to the upcoming Talk About Our Shit 2020 zine, public art, and exhibition project.

The Project
There is so much language used in spaces of resistance that never lives past the spoken moment. How can writers contribute to radical memory? How are cities waking up to themselves? WW believes that as folks who work with words, we have a responsibility to 1) examine how our craft is both upholding and dismantling oppressive systems, and 2) support and empower those who wield words & creativity against injustice and for liberation.
These Poetic License Minigrants will fund creative documentation of direct actions, protests, civil disobedience, and communal political dissent as it is currently unfolding nationwide.
We are looking for writers who are interested in creating 2D multi-media pieces in response to protest events or direct actions you’ve attended anytime between January 2020 – November 2020. Think true DIY, guerilla zine aesthetic. Get scrappy, use image, text, and texture to tell the story of your community, your experience, within this temporal moment.
Our goal here is to amplify and create work that lies somewhere between poetry of witness, verse journalism, and documentary poetics. It is poetry and creative expression as a line of reporting. Our hope is that these minigrants are a “Poetic License” that supports you to create what you’re called to create in conversation with the current time.
